MSRDC - Pedestrian Skywalk Bridges in Mumbai Metropolitan Region
Background
In the current urban context, the intersections are the critical areas of pedestrian congregation and require safe and efficient crossing facilities while ensuring minimum delay to vehicular traffic. In order to provide safe pedestrian crossing, reduce vehicular delay due to pedestrian signals and reduce accidents to a great extent, it is of utmost importance to improve the overall transport infrastructure. Skywalk bridges/foot-over-bridges forms a very important aspect for overall improvement of transport infrastructure in the city and helps pedestrians to improve their safety and mobility.

The transport scene in Mumbai is highly skewed towards its suburban rail system due to the large dependence of the population on the same.

Large amount of the pedestrians are originating from the suburban railway stations, where most of them have to utilise a foot over bridge to come to the end platform and the road

The subways etc. are extremely difficult and costly in Mumbai due to the service / utilities shifting and high water table.
It is with this Back Ground; MSRDC has initiated the study to develop Skywalk bridges in Mumbai Metropolitan Region and identified 10 locations based on certain in the Phase I of the project. The length and width of the identified Skywalks is tabulated below;

Bandra and Virar are being taken up by MMRDA for Implementation. A new sky walk is identified from CST to Church gate and is being taken up by MSRDC
Salient Features and Present Status of the Project
MSRDC has invited well qualified and experienced consultants as project Management Consultant to assist it in aspect of detailed project preparation which includes preparation of detailed design, cost estimates, bid documents for implementation, and as a supervision consultant for the following Skywalk bridges to be developed in III Packages.

Three consultants have submitted the bids and MSRDC is in the procedure of appointing consultants for the same.
